Window of Mind--Confluence
The series of “Window of Mind” are the artist’s reflection and inner voices during his long residence in Hualien which are reflected in those works. This sculpture “Confluence” is made of greywacke, while there is a long window of see-through effect in the middle of it symbolizing the element of the mind window that viewers can penetrate it to see the inside and vice versa when they re-examine themselves, they can also see the outside scene through it. The imagery of the work is like the mountains rising upon Hualien with floating clouds and rains interwoven into a poetry, while the (aritst’s or residents’) thoughts dripping into the imagery of river. The artist uses reliefs to carve out scattering rains on the door plank to symbol the rains attached to the appearance of the door, and they also symbolize cone-shape mountains.
