Hualien Stone Sculpture Museum

“Shanshui” has always been the centre of my sculptural work. It incorporates the Eastern philosophy of yin and yang, as well as the Western concept of the solid and the intangible. People often focus only on the form of my sculptures, and forget about the process of deduction. The parts that are carved away are like the continuous flow of water (shui) in the landscapes, constantly flowing, using softness to overcome rigidity, the marks traverse mountains, and represent my spirit, and the trace of my thoughts. --- Lai Chi Man, 2021
