When using stone or brick material, Atsuo Ishii not only focuses on a sense of volume, but also slows down the polishing of the texture and mottled color when deforming stone. By altering and twisting lines, he creates dramatically contrasting footsteps for his works and returns to the energy sealed within stone from ancient times. He personally adds the stone textures, while concealing insight into its organic ore body and keenly sensing the subtle gaps in colors of the ore body and texture. Swiftly and gently exerting a subtle influence, the work enables people to become a part of a natural balancing of texture. From this, an indeterminate, but dense Zen sensation is lightly hatched.
