Hualien Stone Sculpture Museum

During a midsummer night in Hengchun Village, a barefooted man is sitting with an old yueqin in his lap, while he whisks away flies with a wet towel that he hangs around his neck. The man is play a an old tune and is reminiscing. Tsung-Hui Lin chose to use diano real marble that has a yellowing and grayish tint to create this work. This stimple and down to earth work evokes nostalgia of the rural countryside. Chen Ta, the folk singer being depicted, sings about the hardship of the countryside, yet does not show a shred of frustration. Both the sculptor and folk singer share a similar life of toiling in oder to create something gracious and that lies close to the heart. The rough stone engraved like a traditional print perfectly capture such bitter sweet emotions. They never forget to find a the joy in their humble lives.
