Stone Sculpture
Gaia's Gaze
140*100*205
Through carving in store, the artist reinterprets Picasso’s cubism style of painting. The sculpture is of the Greek goddess of Earth, Gaia. Her silent tear is a result of mankind’s excessive use of natural resources. In 1995, the work was initially planned to be install at Taiwan Cement Corporation’s Hualien plant. The work evokes the environmental awareness of the local residents. The artist hopes to use this piece to awaken public concern on environmental issues, and at the same time promote a more sustainable balance between industrialization and environmentalism.
