Hualien Stone Sculpture Museum

The author carves out the image of traditional Taiwanese woman in the stonework who wears a bamboo leaf hat working in the farmland and carrying her little baby on her back. When she is busy in farming, she still keeps caring the baby’s emotions, which reveals the farmer’s hardship and the affection of family relationship. The woman’s body is carved more delicate and smoother so as to express realistically the mother with bamboo leaf hat and simple dress who cares about her baby by teasing and appeasing. Such depiction makes the mother’s image more independent and tough as if she is carrying the hardship and heavy burden of life without regret but resignation. It has vividly represented the simple and determined style of farm housewives.
