Boulder
Since the development of civilization, mankind has always attached a divine sense of solemnity to boulders and stone pillars. They have been used to commemorate victories, worship in religious activities, or highlight achievements. There are many examples, such as England’s Stonehenge, Egyptian obelisks, India’s Pillars of Ashoka pillars, and Rome’s Trajan’s Column. These stone pillars serve as memorials for the cultures at the time as well as products of totalitarian rule. Now, the artist specially creates a giant stone pillar to symbolize how the cultural rights of this current generation come from individual will. He specifically takes stones from Italy and inlays them into marble boulders from Hualien. With this work, one can witness the convergence and integration of two different cultures.
