Hualien Stone Sculpture Museum

The artist is inspired by the concept of compass to cut out a piece of semicircle shape in the round marble and grinds it to present black-color texture, while there is a penetrating white light in the middle part symmetrically divides the whole circle as if a compass leading the directions. Literally, the work “Departure” represents the image of heading for somewhere, and it also symbolizes the changes of human minds. The artist uses simplified imagery of a compass to express the concept of being ready for departure. What he wants to express is to bless those who are taking departure might have a compass (representing the direction) in their minds to lead them to find their direction in the (life) journey.
