The Light of Sculpted Water
A plump fish wiggles its fins as it attempts to swim into the distance. Yet, it is fixed and suspended on a stone pillar. Fish symbolize an abundance of resources in the sea, while light symbolizes hope. The work presents a gentle sense of irony. Francisco Javier Astorga Ruiz del Hoyo uses rounding and smoothing techniques of stone sculpting to present a solitary fish bathed in light. Without sea water, it somehow manages to gain an even greater sense of presence, and serves as a poetic reminder for mankind to preserve and treasure marine life and resources.
