Shadow of Tree
The white columnar stonework with irregular net-shape stone sculpture on the top simply conveys the image of a tree. The work takes the ocean as the axis in its molding, furthermore, the artist’s personal memories of Hualien are integrated with wind, water, lighting and natural debris in the stonework to display the distinctively gentle character of Hualien which maximize the verve of “an iron hand in the velvet glove”. With the echo between the upside and the downside, the stonework provides endless room for imagination by the Buddhist allegorical word of “seeing a tree as if it is not a tree” and “seeing a tree as it is a tree again”. The artist applies repetitive and gradual elements to produce visual aesthetics which compose a strongly distinctive style as if the knitting threads he plays have become thousands of genres regular and interesting.
