「磨塑方塊」

石彫協會成立迄今已逾二十餘載，花蓮地區因著這一群石雕工作者的默默耕耘，與地方政府的重視與扶植，石雕藝術儼然已成了花蓮文化特色的金字招牌，近年來協會內的石雕夥伴們相互砥礪，精益求精，在私人蒐藏，公共空間的公共藝術創作，及海內外的創作營，都有傲人的成績，已然將臺灣的石雕藝術推上了國際舞台。石雕協會此次再度受邀於文化局石雕博物館第一展覽室，推出會員聯展，為了有別於以往的展覽，我們將這次的展覽，定位成會員之間的一次設計交流，請石雕家們稍稍跳出平時的創作模式，帶點俏皮與遊戲的味道，為這次的展覽特別創作一件全新的作品。我們的本意仍然是石雕，金屬只是客座。這是一次小小的探險，將金屬限定在方塊體，而絕大部分仍然是石頭，試著將兩者聯合起來，帶有設計的意味在其中，以輕鬆趣味的心情，為石雕創作注入一點有別過往的新樂趣，與嶄新的展覽風貌。

The Cube

It has been more than twenty years since Hualien Stone Sculpture Association was founded. Thanks to the silent efforts of these sculptors as well as the emphasis and support of the local government, the art of stone sculpture has seemingly become the golden signboard of Hualien cultural characteristics. During those years, the sculptors in the association were so enthusiastic over annealing skills with each other and constantly striving for perfection so that they got glorious achievement in private collection, public arts creation in public places and domestic & oversea creation camps. They also pushed the stone sculpture art in Taiwan into international stage.

The association is invited again to jointly exhibit their members’ stone works in the first exhibition room this time. In order to be different from former exhibitions, we definitize the purpose of this joint exhibition for exchanging design ideas among the members, and require them to leap over their usual patterns of creation with a flavor of witticism and pastime in the stonework, or even better to create a brand-new work for this exhibition only. What we prefer is still stonework, while metal work is only a second banana. This is a tiny adventure, defining the metals within a block which mostly is still a rock, but when the two elements are combined, there would surely be some designing connotation in it with a mood of leisure and fun, which infuses some unprecedented fun into stone sculptural creation and makes a brand-new exhibitive feature.
